I am a full-time local news anchor and reporter, mother of two little ones, and wife of a news photographer. Some may say we lead a pretty hectic life – and now, I’m starting a business. Why not add one more thing to my list?
Have A Slice Cakes began right in my own home, baking bundt cakes in our family kitchen. Baking has been a part of my life since I was a little girl making treats in the Easy-Bake Oven that my mother gave me. It’s something I’ve shared with my family, borrowing recipes from my great aunts in the south and baking with my children in our free time. Honestly, it’s one of the most relaxing things I do in my busy schedule.
I started baking because of my love for desserts, and then I began bringing them into the newsroom for my co-workers just to brighten their days. Everyone loved them and it made me happy to make other people happy. When people started telling me I should sell these things, I would say, “No, no, no – no way.” Not only would that be a big time commitment, but I wouldn’t even know where to start!
On top of my lack of small business experience and time, there was something else…
Baking is a part of my soul. It comes from the heart, and it’s very exposing to create something you love and share it with the world. I’m used to being in the public eye. My face is on TV and I’m active on social media – two places criticism runs rampant. I can handle that, but to have people judge my baking is so far out of my comfort zone, to me, it becomes very personal.
I came to a place where I thought, “Okay – I have a friend who is really knowledgeable in the food industry. If she says I’ve got what it takes, I’ll pursue this.” She said I had to go for it. Now, here I am, stepping out of my comfort zone (very far out).
Baking makes me happy, so I decided to do what I love. I’m sure all the women out there know the feeling of finding their sacred place and doing “their thing” to unwind. Now I’m bringing “my thing” to the public to share my passion.
I hope people will love my bundt cakes and so far, the word has been good!
It was so exciting to get my first customers, including Aloft Hotel in Downtown Cleveland – something I never imagined would happen, especially this quickly.
For now, I am getting my bearings as a small business owner and integrating those responsibilities with those of being a working mother and wife. I’m doing what I love every day and I’m so excited to continue to share what I love with others.
So ‘Have A Slice’ and thanks a bundt-ch!
Yay!!!! Congrats Tiffani! I am a fan as you know and it is just wonderful that you are going out on a limb to grab the fruit that awaits you!!! You are a multi-talented woman and I am not shocked at all that you are smart enough to take the advice of your friend. Your cakes have definitely lifted my spirits and brightened my days. Thank you. You are an inspiration! Wishing you success!
Our family throughly enjoyed the cakes we had for Christmas Dinner. The Chocolate was amazing. My granddaughter was just asking me when we were going to have a cake from Tiffani’s ‘Have a Slice’ again. Kids loved it!
Where can I buy them at?
