It’s been another trip around the sun for our She In the CLE Family, and what a year it has been!
At this time last year, we launched #SheSpeaks, our anonymous submission forum where our contributors submit their stories without necessarily having their names attached to them. Little did we know then that a massive, culturally significant #MeToo movement was about to be unleashed — so many of you submitted your deeply personal stories, and as difficult as some of them were to read, they were important stories, and ones that we are proud to tell.
As we celebrate our 3 year anniversary, we wanted to do something special to take our community one step further. This year, we’re celebrating by starting the #SheReads Official She In the CLE virtual bookclub!
The #SheReads bookclub is open to any woman who likes to read, so we hope that you will join and invite your favorite women to join too! As of this writing we already have over 50 members in the group, and we’re looking forward to seeing more women join in the fun.
Our first book will be fiction, but we might expand to non-fiction too. Overall, our goal is to keep it light and fun, and hopefully have some good discussions come out of the books we read. And the best part is, we will all be reading them together – meaning that the She In The CLE editorial team will be reading right alongside you. We will have weekly prompts for discussion (and make sure to give ample warning for spoiler alerts) and who knows, we may also decide to do a Facebook Live event at some point!
So without much further ado, our first book is Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win by Jo Piazza. We will read this book until October 15th, at which point we will announce our next book. We’re also doing a book giveaway over on Instagram, so make sure you’re following us so you can participate in it too!
So back to Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win – it tells the story of Silicon Valley exec who moves back to her small hometown in Pennsylvania to run for public office, and has to deal with the stigma of being an ambitious woman. We picked this book because this year women are making history and running for office in greater numbers than ever before. And unfortunately because a number of women have also been described as “ambitious” in a not-so-nice way. And finally because how can a book with so many accolades not be fun?!
