The story starts like most Cleveland stories do: a change of plans due to weather.
Though we couldn’t tackle the outdoor projects and activities we had intended when we planned this stay cation day, we were determined to not let the gray day — and looming downpours — ruin the opportunity.
Born, raised, and stayed, my husband and I had recently discussed the surprising number of Northeast Ohio attractions that we either hadn’t visited or shared with our kids yet.
I’m assuming others like us are more apt to call on their own hometown favorites and secret gems, and less inclined to spend time on the incredible tourist attractions of the region?
Inspired by the media following of Matthew McConaughey’s visit while filming in town this spring, we decided to take on the half-day in true tourist fashion, squeezing in a bit of everything, from educational and family friendly, to some much-appreciated adult time.
Some of the stops on our adventure:
- Walk through Lakewood Park (before the rain)
- Quick lunch at El Jalapeños, because, well, El Jalapeños
- Quick photo-op at the Cleveland sign at Upper Edgewater Park
- Cleveland Museum of Natural History & Shafran Planetarium
- Tribe Game vs. Reds
- Waiting out a two-hour Tribe rain delay at Wilbert’s, and then JACK
What I do know is if your weather forecast is Cleveland, you learn to be flexible, and don’t let the elements stop you from getting out.
