Why I’m Embracing the Holiday Spirit Early This Year

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Oh yes, I am going to be that person this year. Fully on board with the early holiday displays, the seasonal Starbucks cups and probably even Christmas music. It is, after all, basically Thanksgiving already.

Don’t get me wrong – I love Thanksgiving, so I’m not trying to skip over it. I’m just trying to include it in the general holiday cheer.

You know why? Because we need a little [Christmas], right this very minute. And more than ever. (See what I did there? Too much? Too bad!)

There’s just so much awfulness in the world right now – natural disasters, shootings, but also just general meanness. Everywhere you go, people are crabby, rude to each other and out for themselves. And, of course, the national political mood doesn’t help. We have to make an active effort to not let ourselves be dragged into it, to rise above it and be kind.

Something about the holidays makes most people dig deep and find their nicest, warmest, most helpful selves. This season tends to make people full of cheer and a giving spirit.

Or at least – that’s the part of the holidays I am choosing to embrace this year, and early.

So join me – get out those holiday pajamas, turn on the Hallmark Christmas movies (you know you love them) and do something nice for someone. Be grateful, give back, smile more, spread the love. Yes, we should do this all year round, but this time of the year is the perfect time to start.
